God Jul och Gott Nytt År! Translation: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! It is also just about all the Swedish I know. I am super proud to be half Swedish on my mom's side and around Decemeber time this increases even more with the celebration of Santa Lucia.
Santa Lucia in short is a celebration of light. Traditionally the eldest daughter dresses as Lucia in a white gown and leafy crown with candles and carries a tray of bread and cookies while singing Swedish carols. When I say a crown of candles I really do mean that they light those babies up on top of a young girls head, yikes! I enjoy not burning my hair so in my family we would wear battery operated candles. That crown has since been lost so I have a new tradition where I make the Lucia crown each year. This year I bought garland from Michaels and sewed the ends together. I wore a seperate headband beneath with the candles tucked in. The only problem was that the garland was so big it pretty much covered the candles, better luck next year!
Last years crown was made of greenary I stripped from branches of trees in my yard and were sewn into a headband. Sadly it wasn't sturdy enough for candles.
But really one of the very best parts is all the Swedish food! You haven't lived until you've had some genuine Swedish meatballs. Another favorite is Krem, which is a grape tapiocca pudding but make sure to top it with whip cream! You can find my family recipe below.
Sorry for all the scribbles but young me was quite the little artist, clearly the next Picasso! If you have trouble reading this copy I've translated below:
2 1/2 cups of grape juice
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 cup quick cooking tapioca
1 tbsp lemon juice
Finding a Dala horse, pictured below, in my house around Christmas is about as easy as finding the floor. We have them EVERYWHERE in a myriad of colors.
Santa Lucia is probably one of the most relaxed and beautiful celebrations we have all year. There is no gift exchanges as it really is just about spending time with family, listening to music, and eating some darn good food! I highly recommend celebrating your own version of Lucia with your family, Swedish or not. It is bound to be a fun and tasty night.
Tis the season (finally!) for ugly Christmas sweaters but I don't think they're ugly...like at all... in fact I'd go as far as to use words like beautiful and glorious to describe the vast array of sweaters to choose from. What's not the love?! They're festive, SUPER comfy, and so very punny.
I received this delightful pizza themed beauty as a Christmas present last year and let me tell you I was THRILLED! There may or may not have even been some tears involved. The Betsey Johnson pizza purse was also a gift from last year that left me feeling all kinds of emotions. It is actually a wristlet that I made into crossbody by adding a strap from another purse to the zipper and wrislet hook.
P.S I've linked where to find this same sweater I'm wearing, as well as others, below.
So for the pizza enthusiasts in your life or perhaps even yourself I've compiled a very merry Crustmas gift guide.
A Crustmas Gift Guide
What says friendship more than pizza?! Now your friends and family can always carry around a "pizza" your heart wherever they go ;)
And the grand finale for all these pizza goodies is to wrap it all up in some pizza paper! In conclusion I really love pizza and hopefully there's other people out there who understand and got some inspiration!
Todays outfit was really just me subconciously trying to show a little Hufflepuff pride. I have a love/hate relationship with this sweater, some days I feel like a bee, but today I felt like I could defintely be a Hogwarts student.
And now I am going to admit one of my deepest, darkest secets...those are fake glasses from Halloween. Yup, I fully admit that I put those glasses on for the picture because I was feeling some mad Harry Potter vibes but in the interest of full disclosure they're useless.
